De Waterwerkers applies economics in projects related to water management and climate adaptation. Keywords are efficiency, equity, inclusiveness, social welfare, sustainability, risk analysis, valuing water, policy analysis, financial analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and decision making under deep uncertainty.
De Waterwerkers was founded in 2021 by Jarl Kind, a senior economist who worked for over 25 years for national and international clients and organisations. In 2019, Jarl finished his PhD thesis Drowning by Numbers – Social Welfare, Cost-Benefit Analysis and Flood Risk Management. This PhD amongst others presents a novel risk assessment framework which better integrates social vulnerability and equity, and therewith stimulates the development of socially inclusive (flood) risk management.
